  Jian

  Chinese sword is known as jian. It is one of the oldest known weapons, with a history of over 2500 years. It is a one-hand weapon (as opposed to Japanese katana wich is a two-hand gun). It is considered a major weapon of the Chinese martial arts practitioners with gun (stick), dao (broadsword) and Qiang (spear). There are Chinese sword for two hands, shuangshou jian, but is more rarely used.

  Dao

  Dao is a sword (blade edge on one side) with wide blade that used to cause deep cuts and less thrust techniques. Part of the "four queens of Chinese weapons" (with stick gun, sword - jian, and spear - qiang). Dao is the generic name for edged weapons on one side. As a curiosity, in everyday language, dao means knife (kitchen for example). Dao is a one-handed weapon. It usually uses one weapon, but there are times when using two dao.
